About the Project
The Heian-kyō Reconstruction Project is VoxelUtopia's long-term historical architecture and urban reconstruction project. Drawing on historical sources, archaeological research, and existing reconstruction work, we seek to recreate the buildings, streets, and urban spaces of the Heian-period capital in Minecraft.
Rather than replicating individual buildings alone, the project aims through long-term construction to gradually restore Heian-kyō's scale, order, and landscape as a complete city.
Current Progress
The main reconstruction of the Heian Palace has now been completed.
As Heian-kyō's imperial palace and political center, the Heian Palace is among the most important areas of the entire project. We have spent years researching, designing, and building its palace structures, courtyard relationships, and overall spatial scale.
Beyond the Heian Palace, areas including Rokujo-in have also been completed, and work continues across other buildings and urban spaces of Heian-kyō.
Heian-kyō is a vast, long-term undertaking. Bit by bit, we will rebuild this capital that disappeared a thousand years ago.

Japanese Architecture Community
Beyond Heian-kyō, we also offer a dedicated Japanese-architecture community server for players who enjoy Japanese building.
It connects with the Heian-kyō construction server and provides a 1024-block build height for freer large-scale creation.
Its theme is not limited to the Heian period. From ancient temples, shrines, castles, and traditional machiya to modern and contemporary Japanese cities, homes, commercial buildings, and other regionally distinctive creations, everything can find a place here.
If you enjoy Japanese architecture but do not plan to take part in Heian-kyō's historical reconstruction, this is the better place for free creation.
